Today Brooklyn had her two week check up! Everything looks great!! She is healthy as can be and has gained weight! Feel free to skip over this post, I mainly just wanted to document somewhere things that Brooklyn likes, dislikes, and just some things that she has done. I didn't know where else to document it, so It's going on the blog! :) So for Brooklyn.....
- You only cry when you are hungry or need a diaper change
- You still have your imbilical cord stub (guess you are having a hard time letting go of it)
- You're very aware of the things going on around you- you often lay there with your eyes open just looking around
- When your dad gets home from work you get a big smile on your face when you hear his voice
- You sleep in three hour chunks
- You love to snuggle
- You love music
- You spit up through your mouth and nose

Let the Adventures Begin :)
Well we made it through our first week! It was definately an adventure, but I am so glad to have this little addition to our family. I can't believe how much she has changed already!! She is so beautiful and is such a good baby! She only cries when she needs her bum changed or if she is hungry!! She loves her daddy so much. I walked into the room the other day and they were both snuggling together! I can't wait for more of these precious moments! I love watching them together!
We went and got her new borns done this weekend up in kaysville. It was fun for her to meet grandpa and her aunts and cousins!

Brooklyn Paige Bernard
On June 2nd we had a doctors appointment and since our due date was June 3rd and because of the 2 vessel cord we decided it would be best to get started to make sure all was okay with the baby. So we set up the time of 4:00 pm to get admited to the hospital. Joey and I went to lunch after the appointment and both sat there and stared at our food, it was one of those can't eat, can't sleep, sick to my stomach type feelings cause we were both so nervous and very excited. After lunch we went home and cleaned the place up a little bit and made sure we had everything ready to go! Took some last prego pictures and headed out the door!
40 weeks and ready for a baby! We got to the hospital and got admited, I got my IV and filled out the paper work while waiting for the doctor. The doctor showed up at about 6:15ish and put in the first pill, he said it would take up to 12 hours for the pill to work and every 4 hours a new one would be put in.... after 20 minutes of the pill being in I started having really hard consitant contractions, the nurse checked me at the 4 hour mark and I was dialated to a 5 and still contracting horribly! So she didn't put another pill in and checked me an hour and a half later and I was dialted to an 8/9. She started to get everything ready for the delivery and my water broke. She called the doctor and we were ready to go. After pushing a couple of times Brooklyn's heart rate kept dropping, so I'd have to sit through a contraction or two until she was okay, then push again. After a total of 6 hours (not bad for a first pregnancy) she made her arrival at 12:13 am weighing 7lb 11 1/2 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. Joey cut the cord, and then she was taken to be cleaned off. Part of the reason for her struggling so bad during labor is that her cord was only 10 inches long if that. The doctor said it was a very good thing that I didn't have an Epidural or I could have put more stress on her. While getting her cleaned off and checking her out they had to suck a bunch of fluid from her lungs. So I got to hold her for a second and then they took her to the nursery. Turns out she had Meconium Aspiration. Meconiumn Aspirtation is when a newborn inhales (or aspirates) a mixture of meconium and amniotic fluid. She had to be put on oxygen, got and IV for antibiotics (to help her so she wouldn't get pneumonia) had a couple of chest x rays and was poked and prodded all over the place. After I got my strength and got cleaned up I headed down to the nursery to see my baby for the first time. It was about 2 or 3 hours after she was born. It was so hard to walk in to see her connected to everything and with the oxygen on!!
My first time seeing her (for longer than 10 seconds)
Brooklyn with the oxygen
Poor Baby girl! She has had it rough for a while! First the two Vessel Cord, and now this. She is a fighter! We couldn't hold her until her oxygen level was at 21% which could take quite a while. So after I went and saw her for a while I went back and slept for a little bit. The day felt like a year, Joey bless his heart, spent most of the night/day in the nursery sitting and talking with Brooklyn. He would come in and tell me what percentage her oxygen level was and he kept me well updated. After a couple of visits so the nursery I went in to see her around 9ish and her levels were so low and the nurse took her off the oxygen to wash her hair and she didn't go back on the oxygen!! Her levels were steady and we finally got to hold her!!! A moment we had both been waiting for our whole lives!!
Joey's first time holding Brooklyn :D He is such a proud and good Daddy!
First family picture taken about 22 hours after birth
The Proud Papa!!! :D
My first time holding Brooklyn! 100 times better than christmas!! I can't believe she is mine!!!
Brooklyn Paige, the fighter herself! She got off the oxygen but still had to stay in the nursery so they could moniter her and make sure she was doing okay. Day two of her life came and went still stuck in the nursery, with privillages to visit us every now and again for a couple of hours only to be taken back to have more test done. We all had hopes of us being able to leave Sunday since she had improved so much, but after more tests and another chest xray they decided she needed to stay. I got discharged that day and we stayed at the hospital so I could feed her and visit when ever we wanted. The nurse actually let her spend the night with us Sunday night!! It was such a great feeling!! She did great and we enjoyed having her with us! It was about time!!! Monday morning the doctor came and and asked why we were still there... lol We got to leave the hospital about noon! It was a great feeling to finally be able to leave the hospital!!
Even she thought so!
They were so good to us at the hospital! This is one of the pictures the Nursery took of her! We are so glad to be home and things are great! A little rough our first day and night being home, just trying to figure each other out! But we have made much improvement since then and We couldn't be happier or more in love with our little Brooklyn! She is a trooper and is totally her daddy's little girl!! We appreciate all the prayers and love and support that we have recieved from family and friends!! We are so blessed to have this little piece of heaven in our presence! It really is such an amazing experience, one that I will never forget and one that I will always thank my father in heaven for!! :) I'm thankful for a supportive husband who was there to hold my hand and help talk me through the pain!! He gave many blessings, lots of comfort and many sleepless nights for the both of us! Your the best Joey! We are both so lucky to have you in our lives!! We love you!!
